The new runway of the Kharkiv airport will take all long-range aircrafts

Kharkiv has done about 22% of construction works on the new runway, the length of which will be 2,5 km. As noted in an exclusive comment to Informational Center "Ukraine-2012" the Head of the Directorate for the construction of the airport, Aleksandr Sivalniov, the work with the ground continues here today. "First, we laid the ground-layer of cement grade 60, partially filled the bottom layer of concrete. This is the foundation for future runway. The work with the top layer of soil is ahead of us," - said the construction manager.

Director assesses the readiness of platform to 80%. "Here were laid three main layers, the soil was removed and compacted, in addition, it is stabilized with lime, to avoid excessive moisture. The next phase - laying a layer of 15 cm of soil with cement grade 40, 30 cm layer of concrete grade 75100. Upper layer - heavy concrete grade 400. This technology of concrete layer will let Kharkiv International Airport without problems to take all long-range civil aircrafts", - stressed Aleksandr Sivalniov.

A new runway with length 2,5 km is built from scratch and will be commissioned in late autumn of 2011. Using the old runway at the time of construction of the new one will allow not to close the airport, which benefits both for the city and the country, but also for the new terminal, which in the coming months will be developing a new international route.

As the director of construction noted, after the launch of a new runway, the old one will be closed and in the future it will be used as a spare one for the case of big airflow through Kharkiv.

"In particular, its use is required for the period of Euro 2012, so that the airport could take 25,000 passengers (100-120 aircrafts) within a few hours, on matchdays" - said Aleksandr Sivalniov.

Reminder: earlier in Kharkiv's preparation for Euro-2012 program it was planned to strengthen the old runway and to extend it up to 2,5 km. But over time, it was decided to build a new runway.

In contrast with the new terminal, the preparation of the airfield - the construction of the runway signaling complex, the rescue station, aviation control tower and the reconstruction of the platforms - will be funded from the state budget. For these purposes will be allocated UAH 1 billion 86 million. The cost of construction of the runway in the budget is within UAH 346 million.

This year, the state should allocate to Kharkiv Airport UAH 520 million, the city has already received UAH 100 million.
