According to the results of the International Airport "Kharkiv" 308,681 passengers took advantage of airport services in 2011 (plus 65.5 thousand passengers in comparison with 2010, an increase of 27%).
While analyzing the structure of passenger traffic in 2011 and comparing it with the last year it is necessary to point an increase of the passenger traffic by 27%, from 243.2 thousand passengers in 2010 to 308.7 thousand passengers in 2011 (the increase of 65,5 thousand passengers). Thus, the level of passenger traffic has almost reached a pre-crisis level, which was 309.4 thousand passengers in 2008 (a record result for the period from 1991 to 2011).
It is necessary to note the increase of the number of the domestic flights from 22% in 2010 to 25% in 2011. This increase is primarily connected to the growth of the number of the passengers transported in the directions:
• Kiev (Borispol)
as well as the appearance of a new flight in the direction:
• Kiev (Juliani)
In addition, it is necessary to note the increase of the number of the scheduled flights from 49% in 2010 to 67% in 2011. This increase is primarily connected to the growth of the number of the passengers transported in the directions:
• Istanbul;
• Vienna;
• Moscow (Vnukovo);
• Tbilisi,
and the opening of new flights in the direction:
• Dubai (flydubai);
• Sharjah (Air Arabia).
The reconstruction of the airport, during which in the period from 09.11.11 to 28.12.11 most of the regular and charter flights to such destinations as Istanbul (Pegasus), Dubai (flydubai), Sharjah (Air Arabia), Sharm-El-Sheikh, Hurghada (UIA), Sharm-El-Sheikh (Wind Rose), Tbilisi (Georgian Airways) have been canceled, has strongly influenced on the number of passengers per year. Due to the cancellation of these flights the passenger traffic decreased by about 20 thousand passengers (6.5% of a total number of the passenger traffic in 2011).
It is important to note that, despite the appearance of a daily flight Istanbul-Kharkiv-Istanbul (Pegasus Airlines) due to which a large number of the passengers used the airport SAW as a transit, the passenger traffic on other main destinations with a large number of the transit passengers, Vienna, Kiev (KBP) and Moscow (VKO), continued to increase by 23%, 41% and 48% respectively. This statistic confirms the great capacity of the air travel market of the International Airport "Kharkiv".
While analyzing the data on the flights bookings of the world's airline reservation systems (MIDT) it is necessary to say that most of the passengers traveling to/from Kharkiv with the direct and connecting flights are going mainly to Europe (65%) and Asia (34%).
