On August 28 the new terminal of international airport "Kharkiv" opened its doors for the first passengers.
Before the opening a correspondent of Vechirniy Kharkiv managed to watch the final preparations.
The magnitude of upcoming event was visible from afar. Facades of the houses along the road to the airport were painted in a bright-colored paint, the workers quickly patched holes in the driveway, and in the airport terminal square appeared a huge metal structure - the future stage, where on Saturday for Kharkiv and guests will sing the national pop stars.
To get to the new terminal is almost impossible to an outsider - entrance only for workers and special passes. Inside the building there is hard work - women with rags and harvesting machines selflessly wash the floor, walls and windows. Men trash away the remnants of debris, electricians were conducting test runs of elevators and escalators, installers fastened the friezes on the ceiling - everything should be at the highest level.
The entrance to the lounge through automatic box. I went through it - the frame made the loudest noise, it meant that it was working. The hall itself has not been cleaned up to a shine yet, but it was filled with orderly rows of packed in plastic blue chairs. It is assumed that the new, modern terminal with an area of more than 20 thousand square meters will take to 1300 passengers per hour.
In a closed terminal still operate retail outlets and cafes. The remaining office space was still empty, but the tenants - the representatives of various services - quickly equipped their working places. Since the opening not only the many shops and points of supply would work in the terminal, but additional service centers, in particular, a hairdresser and a new branch of "Ukrposhta".
It was originally planned that the new terminal of airport "Kharkiv" will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2010, but they managed to finish the job before.
- Today, the terminal - is the completion of a long, painstaking work of the triumvirate of the state, the city of Kharkiv and business - says the governor Mikhail Dobkin.
The opening of this important facility was visited by President Viktor Yanukovych. In connection with this traffic on streets adjacent to the airport - Aeroflotskaya, Romashkina, Nestorova – was closed from 9.00 to 24.00.
