The first airport of Euro 2012 was ceremoniously opened in Ukraine

The new terminal of Kharkiv airport, built for Euro 2012, was opened on August 28, 2010.

Red ribbon stretched in front of the main entrance to the new terminal, was cut by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, as well as the governor of the Kharkiv region, Mikhail Dobkin, investor of the airport Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy, Vice-Premier Borys Kolesnikov.

The ribbon was cut off at 11:30.

Before opening the terminal was consecrated by Archbishop Izyumsky, vicar of the Diocese of Kharkiv Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate Bishop Onuphrios.

The ceremony was attended by absolutely all responsible government officials headed by Deputy Prime Minister Borys Kolesnikov, whose work is somehow connected with preparation for European Football Championship in 2012.

From Kharkiv region side, the triumph event was attended by almost the entire management staff of the municipality, state administration, deputies and employees of councils at all levels.

Thousands of Kharkiv citizens gathered at the airport square to greet the opening of the significant facility.

Viktor Yanukovych stressed that Kharkiv airport has become a symbol of Slobozhanshchina.
