Starting October 1, Wizz Air Ukraine, major low-cost air company in Central and Eastern Europe, is launching a Kharkiv-Warsaw flight. The tickets for the new destination are reported being already available by the correspondent of StroyObzor data portal.
The flights from Kharkiv, Ukraine, to Warsaw, Poland, will be operated on Airbus A320 and will be outbound on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
“We have been working on launching of this flight in collaboration with Poland for a long time. We had many meetings with a great number of companies. We are glad that Wizz Air will launch the flight. Ticket price is very important for people, and this company is the best at offering low-cost tickets. Flights from Kharkiv to Warsaw will start on October 1, as the air company selling the tickets has a commercial interest. There are 3 months to sell them and launch the flight,” head of Kharkiv International Airport’s economic department Vladislav Ilyin told StroyObzor.
Initially, the air company was planning to launch a new route at the end of October, but then rescheduled the opening for the beginning of the month. Both Ukrainian and Polish sides are convinced that this flight will be popular with passengers.
“The agreement between the European Union and Ukraine on facilitation of issuance of visas has taken effect in the beginning of this month. Now Ukrainians can get long-term and multiple entries visas. We estimate that about 50 thousand visas will be issued this year. I’m sure people will travel more now,” said Consul General of Poland in Kharkiv Jan Granat.
He says that 20% of visas issued by Polish Consulate are long-term, 25% – tourist.
“The number of visas issued has increased by 33% this year. First of all, this is due to facilitation of the visa regime. We issue free Polish visas. Last year we also opened three major visa centres in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv, which serve 80% of clients. Furthermore, we also accept visa applications in the Consulate. Students, scientific workers, members of economic cooperations, and, of course, tourists – these are the future passengers of the new flight,” – believes Jan Granat.
Wizz Air is the only low-cost airline working in Ukraine. Starting this October, Wizz Air Ukraine is going to operate flights to 26 destinations in 11 countries from five Ukrainian airports. The carrier already performs flights to Kutaisi, Georgia, from Kharkiv International Airport. Head of sales at Wizz Air Ukraine Natalia Artemova told StroyObzor that the question of domestic flights in Ukraine is still open.
“We are constantly returning to the question of domestic flights. Today our only domestic flight in Ukraine is Kyiv-Simferopil. When we entered the Ukrainian market, we launched such flights as Kyiv-Simferopil, Kyiv-Zaporizhya, Kyiv-Lviv. However, domestic transportation market requires high frequency of flights. We use high-capacity aircrafts, which means we need to offer at least one or even two flights a day, but right now there is not much demand. The price for airport maintenance is huge. We will even close the only domestic flight Kyiv-Simferopil because it is economically unfeasible. This is its last week,” – said Natalia Artemova.
