An art object dedicated to a famous writer Mikhail Bulgakov is to be installed nearby his birthplace in Vozdvyzhens’ka street. The form of the art object will be determined by Bulgakovskiy Mir (Bulgakov’s World) contest.
“I would really like the creators of this art object to avoid being overly illustrative,” – said the director of Kyiv Mikhail Bulgakov Museum Ludmila Gubianuri during a press conference.
She stressed that lately a tendency towards being overly illustrative was beginning to show in Kyiv landscape architecture, and “people don’t want to look at artwork, they rather enjoy guessing and recognizing…, and happiness that comes from recognition is characteristic of early childhood.”
Ludmila Gubianuri also reported that Kyiv Mikhail Bulgakov Museum in collaboration with local administration and city authorities announced a design contest for thematic art object dedicated to life and work of Mikhail Bulgakov.
The director of Vozdvyzhenka housing development Svetlana Bogacheva said that the first stage of the contest would be running from July 5 to October 5 this year. It includes presentation of sketch designs, and 10 best ideas will be chosen based on its results.
Svetlana Bogacheva also noted that they would choose a winner at the conclusion of the second stage where the finalists will make their models of the monument.
The jury for the first stage of the contest consists of, namely, the director of Kyiv Mikhail Bulgakov Museum Ludmila Gubianuri, the head of Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Culture Svetlana Zorina, the “voice” of The Master and Margarita audiobook, actor, director, and man of letters Veniamin Smekhov, actor and performer of Voland part in The Master and Margarita play in Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre Anatoliy Khostiakoyev, and others.
“It is important to understand that not all people who live or will live in Vozdvyzhenska street are necessarily fans of Bulgakov, just as Kyiv guests might not be. So it would be nice if people looked at it as a real work of art, and not just a 3 meters high Behemoth cat,” – noted Gubianuri.
The director of Bulgakov Museum reminded that the writer was born in the house in 10, Vozdvyzhens’ka street and was baptized nearby in Khrestovozdvyzhens’ka Church.
