Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE) rates Kharkiv airport as one of the most rapidly developing “air gates” of Europe in 2016. It is indicated by the follow-up to 2016 data in the ACI EUROPE report on passenger traffic in Europe.
Namely, the document points out that against the general tendency towards decreasing passenger volumes caused by worldwide geopolitical cataclysms Ukraine showed an impressive growth. Kharkiv’s hub managed to increase the number of passengers by 60.1% as compared with 2015.
During the previous 12 months Kharkiv airport increased the rate of existing regular flights to Kyiv (Ukraine International Airlines) – to two flights daily; to Istanbul (Atlasglobal) – from four to seven weekly; to Tel Aviv (Ukraine International Airlines) – three flights a week instead of two. A new flight to Warsaw (LOT) was launched in March 2016; it operates 6 times a week.
Kharkiv serviced numerous seasonal charter flights and launched new air service to Dalaman (AZUR Air Ukraine, Bravo, Atlasglobal) and Maribor (Bravo). The leaders in terms of the number of chartered flights are the destinations of Antalya (Ukraine International Airlines, Windrose, AZUR Air Ukraine, Atlasglobal, Yanair) and Sharm El Sheikh (Windrose, AZUR Air Ukraine, Bravo, Yanair, Ukraine International Airlines). In general, the International Airport of Kharkiv welcomed 599.7 thousand passengers in 2016.
The airport’s press service stated that “being included in the prestigious international report has become a high appraisal of the team’s work, of success of the long-term development concept developed by Oleksandr Yaroslavsky’s DCH Group. Besides, it has become a powerful impulse for achieving more beneficial and stable results”.
The January of 2017 also showed a steady growth of passenger traffic. Kharkiv airport welcomed 46.9 thousand passengers, which is 45% more than during the corresponding period of 2016.
The airport plans to widen the scope of destinations. It is planned to have launched new regular flights to Tbilisi by spring. Besides, Kharkiv airport already services a new partner, the leading air carrier Turkish Airlines. Tickets to the new destinations are known to be on sale even today. In the summer of 2017 flights to Warsaw will become daily. The number of flights to Tel Aviv will be increased to 4 times a week.
Along with expanding the air scope the investor also actively participates in developing the internal infrastructure of the airport setting the European level of passenger service quality.
“Steady development in all areas of passenger service is a daily corporate priority of Kharkiv International Airport. A purchase of shuttles made by the Slovenian ТАМ VivAir Company has become a new step towards perfection. These are state-of-the-art low-floor shuttle buses of a new generation, their capacity being 105 people. By the spring the airport’s vehicle fleet will have been completely renewed”, informed the press service.
