2 million passengers a year. The new terminal of International Airport "Kharkiv" opened on Saturday August, 28. This is the second object after Metalist stadium to the football championship, built in the city.
More than a year of construction and 80 million dollars. The new terminal was opened by President Viktor Yanukovych and the main investor in the Euro in Kharkiv Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy. Thousands of Kharkiv citizens gathered near the terminal with State Flags of Ukraine.
According to the guarantor, with the new terminal Kharkiv becomes gateway of international level, and therefore - attractive for foreign investment.
Viktor Yanukovych, Ukrainian President: "The reforms provide foreign investments and the development of small and medium business in Ukraine. I.e. business activity will grow. Transport capacity is also important."
The terminal is spacious and technologically equipped. On the ground floor there`s a large hall with ticket offices, registration windows and small cafes. On the first floor - border and customs control. Then duty free shops and a large lounge overlooking the runway.
The new terminal will be able to take up to 2 million passengers a year. This is four times more passengers than past years. At full strength it will work in October.
Aleksandr Sivalnev, head of the Directorate for the construction of the International Airport "Kharkiv": "There will be IT systems, there will be system of airport activity. But the terminal will operate. First, the inner airlines will start working, and I think that from October-November international ones will work too.
The new terminal is already taking the first passengers. On Saturday 28 August, the opening day of the building, Kharkiv took two airliners Kyiv - Kharkiv. The same aircraft departed in the opposite direction. In the fall, the airport will open flights to Odessa, Lviv and Simferopol, as well as international flight to Istanbul.
Runway (it being built parallel to the old one) will be finished next year. Now the builders layed the main layer of concrete. After the opening of the runway, on the old one planes will be parked.
