Kharkiv 2010: what should we expect

Perspectives. Astrologers promise a tough year, officials promise millions.
2010 will be a year of serious changes for Kharkiv. As astropsychologist Larissa Gres told "Segodnya", the year of the White Tiger has prepared Kharkiv and its inhabitants a serious tests. Most joyless of them are expected in April-May and July-August. "Situation on the planets for Kharkiv points directly to the inevitability of profound changes of everything, that seemed reliable and stable yesterday", - says the astrologer. Large companies and banks will bankrupt, and in public life the intractable series of conflicts and problems will appear in that time.
OLD NEW MAYOR
Kharkiv fate in 2010 largely depends on who will occupy the main seat of the city on May 30 (before we will know the name of the President). If Mikhail Dobkin continues to be the city mayor (he has repeatedly said that he wanted to stay for the second term in Kharkiv. - Ed.), the city will continue to develop along its course: Euro-roads-transport-"communal stuff".
According to all forecasts, the mayor will remain in power for a second term. If someone else chairs (and Mr. Dobkin leave to Kyiv), it will be impossible to predict the changes: the whole policy will be built from nothing.
BILLIONS FOR EURO
Next year is the hard one for Euro 2012, if we want to take at least one match. To solve the problem of hotels: a deficit of 206 five-star hotel rooms to fill in "Britain", "Mercury", "Nemo", which will increase their class. High hopes are being put at the economic forum, which recently took place in Kharkiv. Foreign businessmen by their example inspired Aleksandr Yaroslavskyyy. For the year Kharkiv has to spend UAH 1 billion 852 millions. A quarter of a billion will be allocated from local budget, waiting for more than 600 from the state budget. The rest should be given by investors who need to be interested in Euro 2012. If there are investments - there will be jobs and salaries in Kharkiv.
WAR WITH NON-PAYERS AND MUNICIPALITY BUSES
There will be unprecedented changes in transport. Integrated transport system, which has being spoken about for two years, will give Kharkiv municipal buses, new routes and general travel ticket. Private carriers will only work in the sleeping areas, and you can ride a municipality transport in the center of the city. Up to a dozen of the tram and trolleybus routes will permanently disappear from the map of Kharkiv as economically disadvantageous. All vehicles ewill be quipped with gps-navigators. A general travel ticket will eradicate non-payers etc.
SIX STREETS WILL BE REPAIRED
The next year promises to Kharkiv global road repairs. In 2009, 700 kilometers of asphalt roads were rolled up. According to the mayor Mikhail Dobkin, we`ll have to "do everything to get this money" from the state. The next step - 50 years of the USSR anniversary and 50 years of the VLKSM anniversary streets, Academician Pavlov street, Svobody Avenue and Moskovskiy av. And the City Council plans to take over the central street of the city - Sumskaya. Perhaps, Pushkinskaya and Sumskaya will be one-way streets.
HIPPOES, ZEBRAS AND GIRAFFES
In Kharkiv Zoo there will be more animals soon. The first to arrive are two zebras. UAH 88 000 on their purchase was contributed on the December session of the City Council. According to optimistic forecasts, the giraffe will also live in Kharkiv. For him there will be build a new spacious home. In addition, there`s also a hippo coming to us. Our hippopotamus from Israel is now in Nicholayev zoo, and in May she will be sent to us. Zoo will get animals for free, but for transportation will have to pay half the amount (about UAH 140 000).
SUPERTERMINAL AND "ALEKSEEVSKAYA"
Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy prepares the second megagift for Kharkiv. Neither rain, nor snow do not stop the work at the airport. According to the plan in the fall a key to the two-storey terminal, which will accommodate a passenger hall with the registration of international and local airlines, luggage, waiting rooms of departure, restaurants, cafes and duty free shops, will be handed. The most long-awaited station Alekseevskaya is promised to be done by the Day of Kharkiv. The mayor promised that 2010 is the deadline.
PHILHARMONIC HALL AND MUSEUM
This year, large-scale reconstruction of the regional philharmonic hall should go to the finish line. New adminkorpus is already done, the work in the old hall is about to begin. In 2010 the Memorial "Marshal Konev`s Height" in the village Solonitsevka is also promised to be reconstructed. Now the building is in poor condition due to groundwater and mistakes in design. Southern Railway has pledged one million UAH to make a new system of waterproofing complex - thousands of tourists will come then.
