A press-conference by Grigoryi Surkis, the President of Football Federation of Ukraine, devoted to declaration the requirements to preparation for the final stage of EURO-2012 took place in the Football House of Ukraine on 19th, May.
Mister Surkis commented the UEFA’s documents expressing the official position of the organization regarding the further preparation of the cities holding the championship. In my opinion, preparation of Kharkiv city can serve an example of consolidated efforts and consistent actions of local authorities: the mayor, governor, head of regional council, public deputies of all levels and a local businessman, Mister Yaroslavskyi. Unprecedented interest in holding the championship allowed the reserve city to burst into the final application. “The Herculean efforts taken by the mentioned above parties made UEFA decrease risks of holding the championship in Kharkiv», - stated Surkis.
«According to the schedule, Kharkiv stadium is being commissioned on 5th, December of the current year. It means that the stadium stays beyond the risk zone», - the President of FFU noted. Concerning the airport, it is supposed that the most significant part of fans will use the service of air transport during the days of matches. As UEFA prognoses on the basis of the last calculations, makes the critical load 25.5 thousand passengers a day for the day of group matches that are to take in Kharkiv. Thus, the municipal authorities of Kharkiv jointly with airport operator shall submit evidence of the airport’s capacity correspondence to the forecasted number of passengers to UEFA till October, 31st, 2009. «Pay attention, - noted Mister Surkis, - there is another date in all requirements to all other airports – July, 31d, 2009. Such inconsistency confirms that UEFA has no a single doubt regarding reality of Kharkiv plans, and what is the most important their pragmatism».
«Kharkiv is the first Ukrainian city that not only carried out the schedule but also fulfilled them over having concluded contracts for 4 thousand hotel apartments. I agree, the deficiency of 5-star rooms is observed but also there is a surplus of 4-star ones. Thus, Kharkiv has the necessary hotel fund ready to host in July of the current year. This testifies the understanding the importance of holding EORO-2012 by hotel operators in Kharkiv-2012», - the President of FFU noted.
