The flagship of the Ukrainian Rugby - Kharkov "Olympus" - celebrates its 10th anniversary

This year, June 25, Kharkov rugby club "Olympus" celebrated its 10th anniversary. Over the years, wards of Valery Kochanov and Sergey Nedbaylo rose a lot of times to the highest step of the sport podium. They have repeatedly been the owners of the Cup of Ukraine on rugby-15 and champions in rugby-7 ("fresh" victories in 2014). In addition, the team set a record in 2014, when they won the title of champions of Ukraine on rugby-15 for the tenth time. Not far behind men's is women's rugby team "Olympus". Just a year and a half it took them not only to win the "gold" Major League, but also to enter the Super League.

"The state administration is now paying great attention to the development of sports in the region. We returned big football to Kharkov - thanks to the efforts been made, "Metalist" is again playing in their own stadium. We do our best to support the Ukrainian team in synchronized swimming, which consists entirely of girls from Kharkov and holds trainings in our area. Head coach, Svetlana Saidova, on my initiative, was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the Kharkov region. I am pleased to see the achievements of Kharkov athletes and teams - such as rugby club "Olympus", which has become one of the visiting cards of Kharkov. It managed to achieve remarkable results during 10 years, "- said Chairman of the Kharkov Regional State Administration Igor Rainin.

Head coach of "Olympus" Valery Kochanov, commenting on the tenth anniversary of the club, was restrained.

"The team we have is excellent, it's not a secret and not an accident, because our team is formed mainly of the "Olympus " players. Actually, I am very lucky to work with these guys as a coach. They are not only professionals, but also very hard-working. I am glad that our achievements do not go unnoticed,  that the number of rugby fans in the country, as well as the number of  fans at matches, increases, and our victories strengthen the image of our native Kharkov in the world. I would like to thank Yaroslavsky Alexander Vladilenovich, who supports us for already 10 years. The fact that the "Olympus" shows such good results is greatly his merit, "- said Valery Kochanov.

Reference. Kharkov rugby club "Olympus" was founded  in 2005. The long-term leader of the national championship. Ten-time champion of Ukrainian Rugby-15, two-time champion of the Rugby-7. Winner of the Cup of Ukraine on Rugby-15 in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and two-time Cup winner on Rugby-7. It is the basic Ukrainian rugby club team, delegating the largest number of players to matches. On the basis of the club, women's team "Olympus" is created, which in 2014 became the champion of Major Ukrainian Rugby-7 League. The club operates a children's section, whose main objective is to promote sport among the population and prepare players for the first team.
