Kharkiv continues to prepare fast for European football championship 2012. After eight months after "Metalist" stadium opening, the new passenger terminal of International airport "Kharkiv" solemnly opened its doors. It is the first object in the aviation branch, opened in Ukraine to Euro-2012.
The terminal project has been done less than for two years and three months earlier, than has been planed. Building cost - 80 million dollars. The new terminal area of more than 20 thousand square meters will allow by 2011 to increase passenger traffic to 800 thousand persons a year. The terminal will take both international, and domestic flights.
The general investor of reconstruction of the airport, the president of DCH business group Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy has been welcoming visitors since nine o'clock in the morning. President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych has also arrived to the opening, who was headed to Lugansk on celebrating of Day of the miner.
The terminal will work on a full power in 1,5-2 months. In the near future there will be a run-in of systems of airport activity. At first it will take only domestic flights, and since October-November international ones.
The basic facade of a building is made of glass that gives it ease and lightness. Internal partitions also made of glass that visually increases premise area. The German firm which also took part in construction of new terminal "Heathrow" was engaged in building. Kharkiv enterprise "Stalkonstruktsiya" is the general contractor of building. The basic part of materials were made in Ukraine. Only some aluminium and glass designs were delivered from abroad.
Except the terminal, the new runway which will be capable to accept all middle planes (range of flight of 5-6 thousand kilometres) is under construction also in Kharkiv.
The cost of runway construction is now just over UAH 1 billion. Since airports are strategic objects, they can not be privately owned, so all the work is funded by the state. At this point the platform, on which the presidential motorcade drove is ready.
The new runway is being constructed with a working airport. Once finished, the old runway will be closed, and during the Euro 2012 it will be used for taking and deployment of 100-120 aircrafts with fans from different countries.
The old terminal - is a monument of architecture built in the 50's of last century. It is promised to rebuild within a year. The terminal will be divided into two parts, one of which will be available for the reception area of VIP-passengers, and in the second there will be restaurant, working from the opening of the terminal. According to Mr. Yaroslavskyy, drinking establishment will also be decorated in the style of Soviet Trade: "There will be women in kokoshniks, vodka in glasses, salted cucumbers. Everything as it should be."
After the reconstruction the capacity of the old terminal will increase from 100 to 250 people per hour. During Euro 2012 it is planned to use the building on common grounds. The cost of reconstruction of the old airport building is estimated at 5-6 million dollars.
