On May 11, 2008 Metallist Football Club (Kharkiv), affiliated with DCH Group, became a pre-term bronze winner of the Ukrainian Football Championship.
Tying 1:1 with local Metallurgist in Donetsk, the Kharkiv FC became the bronze winner of the national championship one round before the end of the competition. After this match Metallist FC is beyond the reach of its biggest rival – Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, and deservedly takes the third place at the winner’s stand, regardless of the outcome of the match with Dynamo (Kyiv) in the last tour of the championship.
The Managing Director of Metallist FC Sergey Volik commented on the event, “It is extremely significant that for the second year in a row our club is ranked third in Ukraine after Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv. That gives us confidence and inspiration for new victories.”
The status of the bronze winner of the national championship enabled Metallist FC to start from the first qualification round of UEFA Cup. Club fans have already congratulated the team, its management and the President of Metallist FC Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy, wishing them success in the coming EuroCup season.
